Frequently Asked Questions

You have questions. We have answers. Here's a list of the most frequently asked questions we get at the club.

What do kids do at the club?

We believe in providing a fun, safe, and structured environment for our youth members. After school youth have free time, enrichment, homework help, and snack. After snack they can choose to participate in 3 different activities. The activities change from day to day and range from physical activity in the gym or outside to cooking ,art, career readiness, professionals in training (PIT), STEM, character building, and learning healthy lifestyles

What ages are welcome at the club?

The club is open to everyone in 6th - 12th grades. However, most of our club members are middle school students between the ages of 12-15. We try to offer daily activities aimed at appealing to every age group.

Do kids have to pay to attend club?

We have a $50 annual school year membership fee. Your membership fee is good for one full school year. But, the Evanston Youth Club believes all kids should be able to attend and participate in our programs. If your family is dealing with financial hardship and cannot afford the $50 fee at this time, we offer a scholarship program where instead of paying the membership, we ask the youth to help with community service.

Due to the increased costs of operating during the summer, our summer camp membership is higher ($350) but more than 75% of our summer camp participants receive financial aid/scholarships to attend.

If you are facing financial burden and wish to enroll your child in our program, please contact us and we can provide more information.

The actual average cost per child to the club is approximately $2,000 per year. Thanks to grants, donors and supporters in the community we're able to provide a safe, fun, and affordable place for kids to hang out and learn after school.

Where are you located?

The club address is 603 6th Street, Evanston WY 82930. But you'll probably recognize us as the big white building located next to the skate park, tennis courts and ballfields.

Prior to 2017 we had another location in the city building on 4th street, but thanks to the amazing support of our community - all club activities are housed in/based out of our buildings on 6th now.

Are you a non-profit organization?

Yes, the Evanston Youth Club is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit charitable organization. All donations to the club are tax deductable and we can provide a letter of donation.

How are you funded?

We are funded through a number of methods including federal, state and local grants, sponsorships, and individual donations.

We also host a handful of fundraisers and community events each year to raise funds to support the club's programs and mission.

How long has the youth club been around?

The Evanston Youth Club opened its doors in the fall of 2013 as a collaboration between community partners. We were originally locat3d in the city building at 419 4th Street, but quicky outgrew the space. In 2017 we moved to our current location on 6th Street, called "the Dana" with a full size, gym, classrooms, and offices. In 2022 we opened "the David" annex which features a full size kitchen, garage, additional classrooms and gathering space.

Are you part of the Boys and Girls Club of America?

No, we are not. We love the Boys and Girls Club and their mission, but after extensive research and conversations we determined that our small community was better served by an independent community run organization. We received some great foundational support from Boys & Girls Clubs of America, but we have no affiliation.

Are you affiliated with any other organizations?

We work hard to establish and maintain partnerships and collaborations with many organizations but the Evanston Youth Club is a 100% independent organization representing the unique needs of the Evanston community.

How many youth members do you serve?

We have over 300 youth walk through the club doors each year. Our mission is to be a safe haven, and a support arm for the kids of Evanston and their families.

Are you open in the summer?

Yes, we run a full time summer camp. Summer programs are fun, hands-on and educational. Summer camp also includes a 3 day/2 night camping trip. Summer camp runs Monday-Friday from 12:30 to 5:00pm and includes transportation to and from the club. Summer camp requires an additional registration seperate from the school year.

Do other groups use your building?

Yes. Our building is used by groups of all kinds throughout the year. We have basketball, volleyball, and soccer teams practice and host games/tournaments at our club almost nightly. We also rent our facility for events and parties year round.

What is Tacos & Treats? And is the food truck part of the club?

Tacos & Treats is a youth developed, youth run, and youth operated business created by the Evanston Youth Club as part of our PIT (Professionals In Training) program. Our youth members worked for over a year to plan and prepare to open a real business that is open on Fridays throughout the summer and for limited catering opportunities. The kids shop, prepare, cook, serve, and handle the food and money inside the truck. We love having the taco truck as a part of the club's initiative.

Why do you have multiple vehicles out front?

Using state and grant funding we acquired three 15 passenger vans and a suburban for club purposes. Because we offer free rides from school and home from the club, we need multiple vehicles large enough to safely transport lots of kids. The suburban allows us to pull equipment trailers and the taco trailer, as well as providing 4WD for safe transit in winter conditions.

What events do you host?

We host several fundraiser events throughout the year including:

The Annual Dinner - This event is held annually in May to recognize our youth and our sponsors. The event serves as a fundraising opportunity as well as a chance for our youth to preform and share the things they have been working on throughout the school year. The capstone of the event is the Youth of the Year award that goes to one club member that has demonstrated exceptional character, work ethic, and citizenship throughout the year.

Casino Night - This adults only night at the club is one of our biggest fundraising events of the year. For one night only, every Fall, we turn the club into a casino floor complete with gaming tables from blackjack to poker to craps and roulette, a bar, catered dinner, and a chance to win amazing prizes. This event is 21 and over and always a great time!

Back to School Community Carnival - Every August we provide, along with our sponsors, an opportunity for school aged kids to prepare for the upcoming school year with free school supplies, haircuts, and sports physicals to help them get off on the right foot and succeed in school.

How can I get involved?

There are dozens of ways you can support the Youth Club. Donations are the lifeblood of our organization and all donations are tax deductible. In addition to financial donations, the club accepts new and gently used items such as bikes, tools, sporting goods, just to name a few. Additionally, we have several opportunities throughout the year to volunteer time, services, or expertise to the club. To learn more visit our Get Involved page.
